Laguna Beach Project: Living Room

The owners of this property were ready for an upgrade & the simplicity of beach cottage-style living. At J|B Design Atelier we love timeless coastal design. Today we are going to walk you through the recently renovated living space of this 1965 home, located in the hills of Laguna Beach, California.

We wanted to incorporate great design with the comfort and beauty that comes with living by the sea. This required adding board and batten, upgrading furniture and layering various textures and patterns.

When it comes to coastal style, you can’t go wrong with blues and whites. Benjamin Moore’s Shantily Lace is one of our all-time favorite whites and we knew it would work beautifully in this home.

The home already had fabulous raw saw beam shiplap on the ceilings. These beams give the home character and warmth that we love. To add even more character we added board and batten. Nothing says coastal like board and batten; it truly is the epitome of relaxed coastal living.

Accessorizing the home was the finishing touch. The homeowner already had quite a few beautiful pieces, particularly artwork, that we incorporated into the design from the beginning stages. We headed to Tuvalu in Laguna Beach for a quick shopping trip for the last few pieces. Now peppered with nautical elements, the home really exudes beach cottage style.
